On the Road (Again!), with Sherry Vine

BY SHERRY VINE | On the road again! I actually have a parody of that song, of course, called Takin’ Loads Again. Gross? Yes. On brand? Totally. To pick up from my first article which was all about touring my show, The Second To Last Showgirl, I performed in a few more US cities in July and August [2025]. (I was performing all over Europe for 6 weeks during the summer, but saving those delicious stories for my next article.)

For the past 3 years, I have gone to The Dunes on the Fourth of July Weekend to perform. The Dunes is a very expansive, super fun, gay resort in Saugatuck, MI. It’s kinda like P’Town of Fire Island for that part of the country but it’s all contained. This makes life so easy. The bungalows, hotel rooms, pool, inside and outside dancing, show room, food—it’s all there. You never have to leave the resort. And I always have so much fun.

I fly into Grand Rapids and the drive is a little “Trumpy” but once you get to Saugatuck it’s a lovely blue bubble. And it’s stunningly beautiful. I usually go with Sutton Lee Seymour,

but she was in P’Town for the season—so they brought in my BFF and partner in crime, Jackie Beat. Jackie and I have been performing together for over 30 years so our onstage banter together and duets are pretty solid. The NY Times even called us, “The Laurel and Hardy of Drag” once! Jackie did one solo show, I did my solo show, and then we ended the weekend with our duo Battle of The Bitches show where “the audience chooses categories” (sshhhh, it’s all set up!) and then we battle it out parody vs parody.

I do have to say this show is hilarious and always a crowd pleaser. I like to twirl through t0he dance floor after the show just to say hi. There are tons of gorgeous men but all gay so none were interested in 2 senior drag queens! lol. But I can’t wait to return and if you’re in the area or want to visit a beautiful town you won’t be disappointed.

My next stop was my favorite venue in San Francisco, Oasis. Oasis was created by the late Heklina and the gorgeous D’Arcy, two San Fran drag queens that I have known for over 30 years. We were so sad to suddenly lose Heklina but D’Arcy has done and amazing job taking over. I appreciate Oasis because it was designed and built by drag queens for drag queens. There’s a huge dressing room with everything you could possibly need, which is very rare in most drag venues. I have performed there many times over the years; with Jackie, Joey Arias, and solo. The trip was solo and the SF audiences never disappoint. They are always so enthusiastic and supportive and love a filthy comedy queen. I adore the staff also.

This was a quick trip, so I didn’t have any free time to hang out with my sisters there, D’Arcy, Peaches, and Sister Roma. And I didn’t even have time to hook up with a straight man—that’s how busy she was! It was a quick in and out in San Fran this time (no pun intended as no other in and out occurred) but the show was a blast! I was devastated to hear that Oasis will be closing their glitter doors. But congrats to D’Arcy for keeping this important and fabulous space open for this long. [Note: Oasis lives! Click here to attend their Big Reveal event, July 17/18, 2026]

Speaking of Jackie Beat, I know it’s already too much! Jackie and I were invited to perform Battle of The Bitches at Mad Myrna’s in Anchorage, Alaska for their Pride events this year. I’ve been there several times but Myrna’s recently revamped the show room and it’s just perfect. A real cabaret space with amazing lights and sound. I once performed there in January and I will never do that again lol. It was a kind of freezing cold I never dreamed of. But this was summer time and it was just gorgeous. Jackie and I had time to go to the Pride Parade and enjoy everything. Our show was packed and the audience were eating it up. But again, no trade after the show lol. I was hoping to find a sexy lumberjack but not this time. Mad Myrna’s has been open for over 25 years. If you’re ever up there it’s a must visit destination.

On Labor Day Weekend we staged our bi-annual staging of The Golden Girlz Live. The Z is intentional. We have been doing a live stage version of the hit show twice a year for over 2 years. The regular cast consists of Jackie Beat as Dorothy, Drew Droege as Rose, Sam Pancake as Sophia and me as Blanche. I am ALWAYS the slut! lol. And we have had so many guest stars; Alaska Thunderf*ck, Ben de la Creme, Mario Diaz, Jonny McGovern, Alec Mapa, Stephanie Courtney, Kelly Mantle, and even Chris Pine.

This show is a huge hit selling out every time. We have also done the show in NYC, Fire Island, San Diego, and Palm Springs. The audience goes crazy; singing along to the theme song, shouting out lines and laughing their butts off. We show real commercials from the 1980s to cover costume changes. I can honestly say this is one of the best times I have onstage all year. Pure joy! We usually do it every Feb and Sept, so if you’re in SoCal or planning a trip check it out—you will be so happy you did.

More soon—I promise I have some salacious stories from my time in Europe lol!!
