At the Queer Liberation March, Chain Breakers Unite to Set Things Right

PHOTOS BY LIZ HYMAN | Founded in 2018 as a “no cope, no corps, no BS” alternative to the NYC Pride March, the Queer Liberation March of 2026 took place on Sunday, June 28. Participants gathered at Union Square and marched to Foley Square. This year’s theme was “Breaking the Chains of War and Oppression for Trans and Immigrant Rights.” Our Liz Hyman, who followed the QLM and emerged with this photo essay, filed her visual take on the day along with this observation:
“Queer Liberation. Two words that really sing, don’t they? At the Queer Liberation March, those words have power. Trans men, trans women, genderfluid people, freaks, geeks, stoners, dykes, rebels, and more than a few old ladies all got together to make it loud and proud on one of the last days of Pride Month. No corporations, all smiles.”
